Philippine Art Awards (PAA) 2019-2020
First held in 1994, the Philippine Art Awards has evolved through the years. It was initially conceived as part of the ASEAN Art Awards, where the Philippine winners competed with their counterparts from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. After 14 seasons, almost fifteen thousand competition entries and ten ASEAN wins, Philippine Art Awards has maintained its stature as the Philippines’ most preeminent contemporary art competition and exhibition today.
Woven Universes
Woven Universes highlights the traits inherent to the creation and usage of textiles handwoven by various indigenous peoples from all over the Philippines. More than just objects of beauty and inspiration, their threads, colors, motifs, and patterns in textiles reveal stories about the weaver’s culture and the surprisingly methodical work that goes into these fabrics. With careful study and analysis, fabrics unveil a complex, mythic, and minute universe.
