By Edgar G. Dionela
Published by New Day Publishers, ©2002.

A soft-spoken Negrense does cartoons because, he says, he likes to make people laugh but doesn’t know how to tell funny stories in front of them. He acquired his skill in cartooning by reading books, attending workshops and studying works of noted cartoonists.

His first cartoons were published by Bacolod Weekly. It was the late Ely Santiago, fellow Negrense artist cartoonist who gave him the idea to send his SIMO comic strips to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Aside from cartooning, Dionela also paints. He is an active member of the Art Association of Bacolod. His favorite medium is acrylic on canvas.
