The Yuchengco Museum and the Australian Embassy Manila present The World in Painting, an international touring exhibit of contemporary Australian art. On view until February 13, the exhibit offers perspective into how Australian artists, from a range of generations and locations, experience and view their worlds.

Curated by Zara Stanhope, Senior Curator and Deputy Director of the Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne, Australia, The World in Painting brings together recent works by eight of Australia’s most distinguished artists: Gordon Bennett (also known as John Citizen), Amanda Davies, Diena Georgetti, Raafat Ishak, James Morrison, Boxer Milner Tjampitjin, Nancy Naninurra Napanangka and Elizabeth Newman. Having varying cultural perspectives, these artists showcase works ranging across a diversity of practices and ideas. From domestic interiors to dream-like landscapes, their works present visions of their worlds on canvas that are at the same time highly unique and universally acceptable. They employ painting to represent ideas and narratives of our culture, and to challenge the role of art as a transmitter of representation, preferring to leave meanings open and potential.

The World in Painting is an Asialink/Heide Museum of Modern Art touring exhibit organized by the Australian Embassy as part of Celebrate Australia 2008. The Yuchengco Museum is located at RCBC Plaza, Corner Ayala & Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenues, Makati City. Museum hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 889-1234 or visit www.yuchengcomuseum.org.
