With Culture and Development as its direction this year, the Yuchengco Museum is offering various programs and exhibits that show how culture is essential to addressing development issues. Through topics exploring local culture, art, design, and heritage, the museum hopes to share information that can help promote a distinct Filipino identity.

In line with the government’s proclamation of the third weeks of March and October every year as Design Week Philippines, the Yuchengco Museum is presenting a talk on design, including emerging trends, principles and elements, and writing about design. The talk is on February 11, Saturday, at 3:30 p.m., and is the first in a series of writer’s workshops and public talks through the museum’s Culture and Media program. The talk is free with museum admission.

Guest speaker Isabel Berenguer Asuncion, an architect and columnist for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, will speak on how to “Let the Eyes Speak: Articulating the Language of Design.” She will identify the principles and elements of design, as well as explain how to communicate these concepts by writing and talking about design in everyday language. Yuchengco Museum Administrator Dannie Alvarez will share local and international examples of emerging trends in design.

Isabel Berenguer Asuncion is a principal architect of Asuncion Berenguer, Inc. She writes for the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Property pages every Saturday, under the column “Design Dimensions.” Prior to forming the architectural and interior design firm, she practiced architecture in Hong Kong for five years. She is experienced in a variety of residential, commercial, hospitality, and corporate projects. With her unique perspective as an architect and ability to write about design, Asuncion will also share her experience as a design columnist to writers, journalists, and design enthusiasts.

On the same day prior to the talk, the Freelance Writers’ Guild of the Philippines (FWGP) is holding a writing workshop with blogger Ganns Deen sharing insights into Blogging 10, and social media guru for Internet research and marketing Janette Toral giving an overview of search engine optimization (SEO). A workshop fee of P1,800 applies. To inquire about the FWGP’s workshops, email [email protected].

To register for the museum talk, call 889-1234 or email [email protected]. Yuchengco Museum is located at RCBC Plaza, corner Ayala and Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenues, Makati City.
