For nine years now, the Angel C. Palanca Peace Program (ACP’) has been holding the Competition on Peace Essay Writing as part of its earnest and sustained effort in promoting peace in the community and in the country. Education and peacemaking are inextricably intertwined, and Angel C. Palanca was Chair of the Board of Trustees of Far Eastern University from 1956 to 1976. He was a man of peace and for peace. It was to honor his memory and to continue his subtle advocacy of peace in various fronts that his family had put up the Angel C. Palanca Peace Program which was initially implemented at FEU.

This is the second volume of Winning Peace, and it puts together the winning essays in the competition from 2008 to 2012. This cluster of essays reflects how the youth ‘s perception of peace and involverment in peacemaking has changed over the years. As the ACP metamorphosed into the newly formed and independent Angel C. Palanca Peace Program Foundation, the family is glad to share with everyone these organized jottings and meditations of the young about peace. Let us all be part of their journey towards the eventual globalization of peace.

Everyone, not just beauty contestants, wants “world peace,” but the phrase is meaningless unless it is brought down to the level of ordinary people, especially young people. The Competition on Peace Essay Writing inspires students in Far Eastern University to discover for themselves what peace means in their everyday lives.
