Mga Tula ng Kabataan, Poems of Childhood, was inspired by ROSALINA GOULET’S desire to keep alive in her daughter’s mind and heart the Philippine part of her cultural and linguistic heritage. This attachment to her country of birth was also the reason for her founding Iskwelahang Pilipino twelve years ago. Based in Newton, Massachusetts, Iskwelahang Pilipino is the only volunteer school of its kind where children of Filipino descent learn about their roots through the study of language, music, dance, arts and crafts, games and ethnic cooking. The school is conducted by parents and friends committed to preserving their Philippine heritage.
Dr. Goulet, a Fulbright-Smith-Mundt scholar, holds degrees from the University of the Philippines, the University of Michigan, and New York University. She taught English in Manila public schools and local universities, and Tagalog in the American and British embassies, the University of Hawaii and the University of Michigan. As a national supervisor of English, she travelled all over the Philippines conducting workshops and conferences on the teaching of English. She was a consultant to the Peace Corps and the State Department of Education in Massachusetts.
She stayed home to be a full-time mother, but is at present back in the work force teaching English to international students and supervising the teaching of English as a second language in the Action Public Schools and the Action Boxborough Regional High School.
