Give an extra touch of joy and surprise this Christmas with the presents you wrap and give. Discover new ways to beautifully wrap your holiday gifts, which people will hugely appreciate. Unleash your creativity and learn the essentials of Furoshiki, the Japanese art of gift wrapping with cloths.

Learn how to wrap gifts that friends and family will want to receive first and unwrap last with a two-hour hands-on workshop on “Fun Furoshiki” at Yuchengco Museum on December 5, Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The workshop will be led by self-taught Furoshiki enthusiasts Vicky Ortega and Nenette Sadiua of 35Gerberas.

The act of gift wrapping is a way of sharing a very personal part of ourselves with the person we are gifting. Gifts should be beautiful and the way they look is a gift in itself.

In the “Fun Furoshiki” workshop, Vicky and Nenette will introduce six styles of wrapping, focusing on Furoshiki’s versatility. They will also demonstrate how to wrap opp-shaped and -sized gifts, using the right cloth wraps.

Workshop fee is P1,000 for adults and P1,200 for adults who would like to wrap gifts with their child as a tandem. A wrap workshop kit, which includes the 2 wraps, the sample shapes and workshop notes, will be given so just come with a mind to have fun. In addition, 35Gerberas wraps will be available for sale during the workshop and at the Yuchengco Museum’s Books & Gifts Corner.

About Vicky Ortega and Nenette Sadiua

Vicky Ortega and Nenette Sadiua of 35Gerberas are self-taught cloth wrapping enthusiasts. They both thoroughly enjoy surprising their families with gifts where the wrapping itself is already a gift. While they worked at succeeding in the corporate arena, they only had time to wrap for family and close friends. They have since semi-retired from the corporate rat race, and are now pursuing their creative passions.

Nenette is pursuing a second undergraduate degree in Fine Arts, while Vicky has discovered her talent for doodling, recently self-publishing a coloring book. Their combined passion project is 35Gerberas, which brings together their creativity in designing cloth wraps and finding new, creative ways of wrapping gifts with cloth.
