UnBound: An Australian Philippine Exchange

UnBound explores how culture can move beyond physical boundaries and the cartographic disposition of nation-based exhibitions and prepackaged notions of exchange. Using the loose metaphor of the airport transit lounge as a zone of intersection—for coming and going, notions of home and away, transience and permanence—this exhibition takes its cue from a group of artists and their self-driven desire to embed their practice regionally. What sets these artists apart is that they constantly oscillate between the Philippines and Australia, identifying with both as home.

The exhibit features the works of Alfredo (born in Cagayan Valley, Philippines) & Isabel Aquilizan (born in Manila), Maria Cruz (born in Manila, lives in Berlin), David Griggs (born in Australia, lives in Quezon City), Diokno Pasilan (born in Northbridge Western Australia, lives and works in Palawan and Bendigo, Victoria), Juni Salvador (born in the Philippines, lives in Sydney and Manila), and Tony Twigg (born in Brisbane, lives in Sydney and Manila).

UnBound: An Australian Philippine Exchange is presented in partnership by the Australian Embassy Manila and Yuchengco Museum in celebration of Australia Day.
