Photography, pottery, and food come together in an exploration of the Cordilleras — its landscapes, traditions, and enduring relationship with rice. Join us for a talk on photography and a gastronomic experience for Joey De Castro’s ongoing showcase, ‘Coming to Life’ at YSpace.
📷 Noli Gabilo, photographer and mentor of the artist, presents ‘The Cordillera Rice Culture: How I Photograph It’, drawing from his longstanding engagement with the region and its communities. His photographs are placed in dialogue with the work of Joey de Castro, whose handmade pottery reflects the forms and textures of the Cordilleras.
🍲 For the occasion, Toyo Eatery will present a tasting featuring Tinawon heirloom rice, a treasured rice variety preserved by Ifugao communities across generations.
In this special event, Toyo will serve Tinawon in Joey de Castro’s handmade pottery pieces, inspired by the landscapes of the Cordilleras. Served in Tinawon bowls, the meal brings together the practices of looking, making, and sharing.
