The Book in a Glance and About the Author…

The Book is the brainchild of fashion designer and artist, Steve Cortes De Leon who was cited in 1988 as one of the Ten Outstanding Fashion Designer of the City of Manila. He showcased a 150-piece couture collection in Manila Hotel (1989) and mounted a major exhibit of clothes at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (1990).

The Book is his interpretation of the Mysteries of Light through his works in tapestry and artwear.

About the Book…

As part of the Steve’s continuing evolution as a fashion designer and artist, he was honored to do an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum in Central Bank under the Museum Director Ms. Felice Sta. Maria in 1990-1991. The exhibition was entitled Misteryo ng Virgen Maria, working around the theme of the fifteen mysteries. He set to create what foremost writer critique, historian and publicist Ms. Gilda Fernando, described as Soft Sculpture.

In 2002, Pope John Paul II, now a saint, added five more mysteries in the recitation of the Holy Rosary, the Luminous Mysteries. Later on, Steve was inspired to do and interpret the five mysteries in tapestries and art to wear in a collage of indigenous fabrics and found objects.

This book is a showcase of his legacy in celebration of his Catholic faith, and as means of giving back to God-in fulfilment to his mission in life as an artist.
