This work borrows the bold language of superhero comics to celebrate the real heroes who fought for justice in the Philippines. Five women are illustrated twice: the top portion depicts the hope and awe expected of superheroes, while the bottom presents a grounded “alter-ego” reflecting their sacrifices. Bookended by lyrics from the song “Babae” by Inang Laya, the piece encapsulates the common thread uniting these five heroes: an unwavering desire to be free.
