Brook Andrew: Eye to Eye

What

Brook Andrew is an Australian artist whose work encompasses photography and installation, as well as interventions in the realms of architecture, the museum, public art, and landscape design. Deftly connecting aesthetics and polemics, Andrew creates striking and insightful works that neatly, beautifully, encapsulate complex conceptual and theoretical questions, which emerge from a lived experience.

Reflecting equally on global mass media and traditional grassroots aesthetics, Brook Andrew’s work asks us to consider the construction of history and power, identity, and invisibility; in black, white, and many shades of grey. Covering the scope of the artist’s practice over the past decade, Brook Andrew: Eye to Eye interrogates the politics of difference and, closely entwined, the implications of the ‘gaze.’ Eye to eye, across land and cultures, Andrew’s work explores the promising yet fractured grounds of intercultural engagement.

Brook Andrew: Eye to Eye is presented by the Australian Embassy Manila.
